FinanceCalc Pro docs

Version 0.19.0 (pre-release) · Updated September 26, 2026

These docs cover the current pre-release build of FinanceCalc Pro on iPhone, iPad, and Mac — Settings shows it as version 0.19.0. The app is not in the App Store yet.

Getting started

FinanceCalc Pro puts 216 finance calculators on your iPhone, iPad, and Mac. Every calculation runs on your device, and you never need an account.

Requirements

  • iPhone or iPad: iOS 17 or iPadOS 17, or later.
  • Mac: FinanceCalc Pro also runs as a Mac app.
  • Control Center button: iOS 18 or later. Everything else works on iOS 17.

Getting the app

FinanceCalc Pro is not in the App Store yet, and we announce dates only when they are certain. Ask for early access and we will tell you as soon as it is available. The app is set up so that one purchase will cover your iPhone, iPad, and Mac.

First launch

  1. Open FinanceCalc Pro. A short welcome walks through five cards: calculators that work offline, charts and what-if sliders, exports, income tax for all 50 states, and privacy.
  2. Tap Next to move through the cards, or Skip to go straight in. On the last card, tap Get Started.
  3. You land on the Dashboard. The welcome does not appear again.

Finding your way on iPhone

The tab bar has five tabs:

  • Dashboard — your financial-health score, four quick calculators, and your recent calculations.
  • Calculators — the full catalog, grouped by category, with search.
  • Favorites — the calculators you marked with the heart.
  • History — your saved scenarios and the calculators you opened most recently.
  • More — Saved Scenarios, Compare Scenarios, Planner, Financial Profile, Glossary, and Settings.

Finding your way on iPad and Mac

On iPad and Mac, a sidebar takes the place of the tab bar. It lists Dashboard; a Library with All Calculators, Favorites, and Recent; all 16 Categories; and Tools, which holds the items from More. When there is room, the calculator list stays beside the calculator you open, and a wide window shows inputs and results side by side. An iPhone keeps the tab bar, even in landscape.

Keyboard shortcuts

With a keyboard attached to your iPad, or on a Mac:

Shortcut What it does
⌘1 Go to Dashboard
⌘2 Go to All Calculators
⌘3 Go to Favorites
⌘4 Go to Recent
⌘ Return Calculate
⌘S Save Scenario
⌘E Export to Excel
⇧⌘P Export to PDF
⇧⌘R Reset the calculator

On iPad, hold ⌘ to see the shortcuts available on the current screen.

Running a calculator

Find a calculator

  1. Open Calculators. Categories start closed, and the number beside each one tells you how many calculators it holds. Tap a category to open it.
  2. To go straight to one, type in Search calculators. Search matches names and descriptions and opens every category with a match.
  3. Tap the heart beside a calculator to add it to Favorites. Your favorites and the calculators you opened recently appear at the top of the list.

You can also open any calculator from Spotlight search on your device. See Widgets and shortcuts.

Enter your numbers

The first time you open a calculator, a short tip explains what it does. Dismiss it and it stays gone. Each input sits on its own card, with help text beneath it that explains what to enter.

  • Type numbers in either style — 1,000.50 and 1.000,50 both work, whatever your region. Leave out currency and percent signs.
  • Loan terms have a Years and Months switch.
  • Calculators that use year-specific tax figures have a Tax Year picker with 2025 and 2026. It starts on the newest year.
  • If you have filled in your Financial Profile, matching inputs start with your numbers, and a note says Some inputs were filled from your Financial Profile.

Calculate and read the result

  1. Press Calculate. The headline answer appears in a large card, with the other figures in tiles below it.
  2. If something needs fixing, a red message says what — under the input itself, such as a required value left empty, or under Calculate, such as a value that must be greater than zero. Fix it and press Calculate again.
  3. Scroll down for the rest of the result:
    • What-If Scenarios — sliders for up to four numeric inputs. Drag one and the result updates as you move. A slider changes that input, so press Reset under Actions to go back to the starting values.
    • Sensitivity — a chart of how the headline result moves across one input's range. Tap the input name beside Vary to pick a different input. Other inputs stay as entered, and a dot marks your current value.
    • Chart — shown when the calculator produces a schedule. Drag across the chart to read the value at any point.
    • Amortization Schedule — the period-by-period table for loans, payoffs, and projections. The first 24 rows show; tap Show all below the table to see every row.
    • How It's Calculated — the formula and method, in plain words.

Saving, exporting, and sharing

Save a scenario

  1. Calculate a result.
  2. Under Actions, tap Save Scenario.
  3. Keep the suggested name — the calculator's name and the date — or type your own, then tap Save.

To find your saved scenarios, go to More and tap Saved Scenarios, or open History. Scenarios are grouped by calculator. Tap one to reopen it with your inputs restored and the result recalculated. Touch and hold a scenario to Rename, Duplicate, or Delete it, or swipe left to delete.

Compare scenarios

  1. Save at least two scenarios from the same calculator.
  2. Go to More and tap Compare Scenarios.
  3. Choose the Calculator, then select two to four of its scenarios.
  4. Read the result figures side by side under Comparison.

Export a result

The export actions under Actions become available once you calculate. Each export opens the share sheet, so you decide where the file goes — Files, AirDrop, Mail, or another app.

Action What you get
Export to Excel An Excel workbook with seven tabs: Summary, Inputs, Results, Schedule, Formulas, Data Source, and Disclaimer. Schedule figures are real numbers, and the Total row adds each column with a live formula.
Export to PDF A printable report on US Letter pages, with your name and logo in the header if you have set them.
Export to CSV A single plain-text file with each workbook tab as a labeled section, ready for any spreadsheet or accounting tool.
Email Excel File, Email PDF, Email CSV A new Mail message with the file attached.
Share as Image A picture of the result figures.
Share Link A link that reopens this calculator with your current inputs filled in and the result calculated.

Put your name on PDF reports

  1. Open Settings and find Tools and Reports.
  2. Type your name or firm in Brand Name.
  3. Tap Add Logo and choose an image from Photos. Later, use Change Logo or Remove Logo.

Your name and logo appear in the header of every PDF you export. Excel and CSV files are not branded.

History

History lists the last ten calculators you opened under Recently Opened. Tap Clear History to empty the list. Your saved scenarios are not affected.

Goals, net worth, and your profile

Your Dashboard score

The Financial Health card on the Dashboard scores you from 0 to 100 using only what you enter in the Planner. It blends your average progress toward your goals (60 percent) with the share of your balances that are assets rather than debts (40 percent). If you track only one of the two, the score uses that one. With neither, the card asks you to add a goal or an account instead of showing a number.

Below it, Quick Calculators shows your first four favorites, topped up with a few staples, and Recent Calculations lists what you opened lately.

Goals

  1. Go to More, tap Planner, and choose Goals at the top.
  2. Tap New Goal or +.
  3. Enter a Name, Target Amount, and Current Amount. Turn on Target Date if you have a deadline, then tap Save.

Each goal shows how far along you are, what you have saved, and what remains. Swipe left on a goal to Edit or Delete it.

Net worth

  1. In Planner, choose Net Worth.
  2. Tap Add Asset or Add Liability, enter a Name and Balance, and tap Save.
  3. Tap Record Snapshot to save today's net worth. After two snapshots, the Trend chart shows how it has moved.

Swipe left on an account to edit or delete it.

Financial Profile

Enter your numbers once, and new calculators start from them. Go to More, tap Financial Profile, and fill in as much or as little as you like:

  • About You — Age, Retirement Age, Household Size, Filing Status, and State.
  • Income — Annual Gross Income, Monthly Take-Home Pay, and Pre-Tax 401(k) %.
  • Savings & Spending — Current Savings, Monthly Debt Payments, and Monthly Rent.

Your profile fills matching inputs when you open a calculator fresh. It never changes a saved scenario you reopen, and the values in a shared link take priority. You can always edit a filled-in value on the calculator itself.

  • To keep one calculator from using your profile, tap Don't prefill this calculator on its notice. The calculator then appears under Not Prefilled in your profile, where Prefill Again turns it back on.
  • To start over, tap Clear Profile and confirm. Calculators open with their standard defaults again.

Glossary

Go to More and tap Glossary for a plain-English definition of every input, grouped from A to Z. Type in Search terms to search both the terms and their definitions.

Reminders

  1. Open Settings and, under Tools and Reports, tap Reminders.
  2. Tap Enable Notifications and allow notifications when your device asks.
  3. Tap +. Pick a Preset — bill due, CD maturity, quarterly estimated tax, or goal check-in — or leave it on Custom.
  4. Set the Name, Note, Date, and Repeat (does not repeat, monthly, quarterly, or yearly), then tap Save.

Reminders are scheduled on your device, not on a server.

Widgets and shortcuts

Widgets

Add FinanceCalc Pro widgets from the widget gallery, the same way as any other app's widgets.

Widget Where What it does
Quick Calculators Home Screen (small, medium) and Lock Screen The medium size opens Loan, Compound, Auto Loan, or Card Payoff. The small size and the Lock Screen versions open the loan payment calculator.
Calculator Shortcut Home Screen (small, medium) Opens the calculator you choose. Edit the widget and pick a Calculator from 16 staples, including Take-Home Pay, Income Tax Estimator, Rent vs. Buy, and 50/30/20 Budget.
Tip Calculator Home Screen (small, medium) and StandBy Works right on the widget. The small size adjusts the tip percentage; the medium size also changes the bill in steps of 5 and splits the total among up to eight people.
Net Worth Home Screen (small) and Lock Screen Opens the Planner. Showing your net worth on the widget itself is not switched on in current builds, so it shows a prompt to open the app.

Control Center

On iOS 18 or later, add the Loan Payment control to Control Center to open the loan payment calculator in one tap.

Siri and Shortcuts

Two actions work with Siri and appear in the Shortcuts app:

  • Calculate Loan Payment — asks for Loan Amount, Annual Interest Rate (%), and Term (Years), and tells you the estimated monthly payment. Try saying "Calculate a loan payment with FinanceCalc Pro."
  • Project Future Value — asks for Starting Amount, Annual Return (%), Years, and Monthly Contribution, and tells you the projected value. Try saying "Project future value with FinanceCalc Pro."

Spotlight and quick actions

  • Every calculator is searchable in Spotlight on your device. Tap a result to open that calculator.
  • On iPhone and iPad, touch and hold the FinanceCalc Pro icon for four quick actions: Loan Calculator, Compound Interest Calculator, Take-Home Pay, and Income Tax Estimator.

Settings and data

Refresh the reference data

FinanceCalc Pro comes with public reference data built in: consumer price index figures, Treasury rates, Series I savings bond rates, currency exchange rates, the IRS life-expectancy tables for required minimum distributions, and federal and state tax tables. Every calculator works offline with this copy.

  1. In Settings, under Data, tap Refresh Data. The row shows Running while it works.
  2. When it finishes, a note tells you how many datasets were updated and that they are applied on next launch.
  3. Close FinanceCalc Pro completely and open it again to use the new figures.

A refresh downloads newer copies of the tax tables, inflation figures, Treasury and I Bond rates, and exchange rates. It sends nothing about you, and if it fails, the app keeps using the figures it has.

Back up and restore

FinanceCalc Pro does not sync your data between devices. Use a backup file to keep a copy or to move to a new device.

  1. In Settings, under Data, tap Backup and Restore.
  2. Tap Export JSON File and choose where to save it — for example, in Files or iCloud Drive.

A backup holds your saved scenarios, net-worth accounts and snapshots, goals, favorites, recent calculators, and Financial Profile. It does not include your reminders or your settings.

  1. To restore, open Backup and Restore and tap Import JSON File.
  2. Choose the backup file, then tap Import to confirm.

The backup is merged into the data already on the device. Where an item exists in both, the copy in the backup replaces the one on the device.

Privacy and your data

FinanceCalc Pro has no account, no ads, no analytics, and no third-party code. Nothing you enter leaves your device unless you share it yourself.

What is stored, and where

What Where it lives
Saved scenarios, net-worth accounts, and net-worth snapshots In the app's storage on this device
Favorites, recent calculators, goals, your Financial Profile, reminders, settings, and your report name and logo In the app's settings on this device
Reminder alerts Scheduled as notifications on this device
Exports and backups Only where you choose to save or send them

Deleting FinanceCalc Pro removes everything it stored. Export a backup first if you want to keep your data.

What leaves your device

  • Reference data downloads. The only thing FinanceCalc Pro fetches from the internet is public reference data — the tax tables, inflation figures, Treasury and I Bond rates, and exchange rates described in Settings and data. It is a plain request for public files: nothing about you or your calculations goes with it.
  • Files you share. Exports, emails, images, and links go only where you send them, through your device's share sheet and Mail app.
  • Rating requests. After you have exported or shared a few times, the app may show Apple's standard rating prompt — at most once per version, and never within a week of the last one. Rating is optional and handled by Apple.

Troubleshooting and help

Common messages

Message What it means
Calculate before exporting. Export and share actions need a result. Press Calculate first.
Set up Mail to send email, or use Export to share. The email actions need an account in the Mail app. Use an export action and share the file instead.
Unable to calculate. Check inputs and try again. Something in the inputs could not be used. Check each input, starting with any that shows a red message.
No updates found. Check your connection. The data refresh did not download anything. The calculators keep using the data they have; try again later.
Updated … datasets · applied on next launch The download worked. Close and reopen the app to use the new figures.
Not enough valid results to chart this input. Too few values across that input's range give a valid answer. Pick another input beside Vary.
Need Two Matching Scenarios Compare Scenarios needs at least two saved scenarios from the same calculator.

Questions

  • Where is the Income Tax Estimator? Under General Utility. Search finds any calculator by name.
  • Which tax years are included? 2025 and 2026, for federal tax, all 50 states, and DC. Pick the year with Tax Year.
  • Why does the Net Worth widget only say to open the app? Showing your figures on the widget is not switched on in current builds. Open the Planner to see your net worth.
  • Why are some words still in English? A few result values, such as the FHA premium tier, stay in English in every language, and the in-app User Manual, Privacy Policy, and Legal documents are in English only.
  • Can I move my data to a new device? Yes, with a backup file. See Back up and restore. Export a fresh backup of the new device's data before you import, in case you want it back.
  • Is this financial advice? No. FinanceCalc Pro is for information and planning. Results depend on your inputs and on reference data that can lag real-world changes, so check rates, limits, and rules with an official source or a qualified professional before you act.
